U.S. Collaborates with Djiboutian Coast Guard to Strengthen Environmental Protection and Maritime Security
Djibouti, Sunday, November 5, 2023 – U.S. law enforcement personnel recently partnered with the Djiboutian Coast Guard to enhance maritime security and strengthen bilateral ties between the United States and Djibouti.
During the engagement experts from Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Joint Theater Forensic Analysis Center, housed at Camp Lemonnier, shared best practices with the Djiboutian Coast Guard on collecting and processing samples of contaminated water. These skills are instrumental in Djibouti’s maritime law enforcement efforts, particularly when vessels are suspected of contaminating territorial waters. Additionally, the engagement will focus on techniques to collect, document, and process contraband, including narcotics.
Camp Lemonnier supports knowledge-sharing events to strengthen the partnership between the U.S. and Djibouti and enhance the Djiboutian government’s ability to guard against illegal activities at sea and protect the environment.
“This collaboration with the Djiboutian Coast Guard underscores our commitment to international maritime security and the prevention of marine contamination,” said Nick Carlo, NCIS Resident Agent in Charge. “By sharing expertise and fostering international cooperation, we are partnering with our Djiboutian counterparts for a safer and cleaner maritime environment for all.”
