Passport Delivery

U.S. passports approved at the U.S. Embassy in Djibouti are returned according to the procedures described below.

Pick Up in Person at the U.S. Embassy

You may come to the Embassy in person to pick up a passport any Sunday or Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., excluding Djiboutian and U.S. holidays.   You do not need an appointment to pick up your passport.  However, you must wait until you are first notified by email that your passport has arrived at the Embassy and is ready for pickup.
The passport should be picked up by the applicant or the applicant’s parent. Any others picking up the passport on someone else’s behalf should have written authorization from the applicant/parent to include name and ID / passport number.

Delivery by Courier Service (DHL, FedEx)

You may choose to have your passport returned to you by DHL or FedEx courier services. In order to do so, please visit a local DHL or FedEx office and purchase a pre-paid, self-addressed envelope. Applicants are responsible for paying DHL or FedEx directly for their delivery service and for understanding the insurance coverage DHL or FedEx provides.

Please visit the DHL website at https://mydhl.express.dhl/dj/en/locator.html or the FedEx website at https://local.fedex.com/en-dj/djibouti for office locations and further information.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • The Embassy is closed on all U.S. and Djiboutian holidays
  • If you are still in possession of your old passport and it is still valid, you will need to bring it to the Embassy or send it by courier so we can cancel it before we can release the new passport.
  • If you choose to have your passport returned by courier the U.S. Embassy should be the sender and the applicant the receiver. Our address is:
