The Federal Voting Assistance Program website is a one-stop-shop for learning how to register to vote, updating your contact information, or finding the voting laws specific to your state of residence.
We encourage all active and reserve-duty enlisted and officers temporarily stationed in Djibouti, as well civilians attached to Camp Lemonnier, to mail their absentee ballots at Camp Lemonnier’s U.S. Post Office. This is the quickest way to send a ballot to the United States. If you cannot access Camp or do not know someone who can mail the absentee ballot on your behalf at the U.S. Post Office there, you may also deposit your sealed and sufficient U.S. postage-paid ballot in the locked dropbox located in the consular entrance of the U.S. Embassy Djibouti from 08:00 to 16:30, Sunday through Thursday. The U.S. Embassy Djibouti will then send your ballot by FedEx to the U.S. Postal Service in Washington for onward mailing to your state or county board of election.
If you have not received an absentee ballot from your state or county board of election by Saturday, October 22, then it is advisable to complete the Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot (FWAB), which can be downloaded here. Complete and print this ballot, placing it in a sealed enveloped with the words, “SECURITY ENVELOPE,” on the outside. Finally, place the envelope in a larger envelope with the address of the state or county board of election and sufficient U.S. postage. Mail your FWAB at the U.S. Post Office at Camp Lemonnier or deposit the envelope in the Consular dropbox from 08:00 to 16:30, Sunday through Thursday.
Don’t wait! Return your voted ballot right away! Remember that U.S. embassies and consulates are not polling places. Same-day, in-person voting is not available outside the United States. Most states require counted ballots to reach local election officials by the close of polls on Tuesday, November 8. If you wish to ensure that your ballot reaches your state or county board of election on or before Tuesday, November 8, mail your absentee ballot at the U.S. Postal Service at Camp no later than Saturday, October 29. If you cannot access Camp, deposit the addressed and U.S. postage-paid absentee ballot in the consular dropbox at the U.S. Embassy Djibouti no later than Sunday, October 30.
