On July 18th, the Information Resource Center hosted a Certificate Award ceremony for 20 English teachers who followed the American English Webinar Series from May through July 2016 at the U.S. Embassy Djibouti.
The American English Webinar Course offered by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, gives a professional development program for English teachers around the globe and addresses methodological topics that foster interactive, student-centered language instruction. This Webinar is part of the English language programs run by the Public Affairs Section and involves English teachers from all levels.
The Public Affairs Officer and the Director of the Information Resources Center handed over the certificates as well as gift bags to the participants and encouraged webinar graduates to use available resources at the American Spaces in Djibouti to improve their skills and use student friendly methods. Participants expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to learn from English experts. “These webinars offered us a platform where we could exchange teaching ideas. Finding new ways to teach English will help us develop our country since English is widely spoken in the world”, said Mandeg Mahamoud a graduate from the webinar classes
This event supports one of the key U.S. Embassy Djibouti priorities of increasing English language skills in Djibouti and equipping Djibouti’s youth and English teachers with the tools to help them advance personally and professionally.
